Saint Joseph in this crucial hour for the Holy Catholic Church
by Father Darovis Caballero

This morning, it is inevitable for me to think of the Church, placed under the Patronage of Saint Joseph by Pope Pius IX 156 years ago.
That December 8, 1870, through the Decree "Quemádmodum Deus", during a time of many difficulties for the Papacy, Pope Pius IX proclaimed Saint Joseph "Patron of the Catholic Church".
The decree reads the following:
“In the same way that God constituted the other Joseph, son of the patriarch Jacob, governor of the entire land of Egypt to assure the people of their sustenance, so when the fullness of time arrived, when he was going to send his only begotten son to the earth for the salvation of the world, he appointed this other Joseph, of whom the first was a symbol, and he constituted him lord and prince of his house and his possession and chose him as custodian of his most precious treasures.”
"Because he had as his wife the Immaculate Virgin Mary, from whom by the power of the Holy Spirit our Lord Jesus Christ was born, considered before men as the son of Joseph, to whom he was subject. And whom so many kings and prophets longed to contemplate, this Joseph not only saw him but also spoke with him, embraced him, kissed him with paternal affection and with solicitous care fed him whom the faithful people would eat like bread that came down from heaven for eternal life,"
The text continues.
“Because of this sublime dignity that God conferred on his good and most faithful servant, the Church, after his wife, the virgin mother of God, always venerated him with the utmost honors and praise and implored his intercession in moments of anguish,”
The decree further indicates:
"And since in these very sad times the Church itself is attacked everywhere by its enemies and is oppressed by such serious calamities that it seems that the impious are making the gates of hell prevail over it, the venerable bishops of the entire Catholic world, in their name and in that of the faithful entrusted to them, raised their prayers to the Supreme Pontiff so that he would deign to establish Saint Joseph as patron of the Church."
“And as these same petitions and vows had been renewed with greater force during the holy Vatican Ecumenical Council, Our Most Holy Pope Pius IX, moved by the mournful situation of these times, to place himself and all the faithful under the very powerful patronage of the holy patriarch Joseph, wanted to satisfy the vows of the bishops and solemnly declared him Patron of the Catholic Church.”
And returning to the statue of Saint Joseph in our garden, I think of the terrible crisis of the Church during the last, at least, almost seventy years. The doctrinal, liturgical, spiritual, and disciplinary devastation that has occurred and continues to occur in souls after the death of Pius XII and in the years following the Second Vatican Council is impressive. The new religion of the Novus Ordo, the modernist religion "sewer of all heresies", with its new "dogmas", new "priesthood", new liturgy, new catechism, new discipline and a new non-Catholic hierarchy that promotes the new religion in the world, forced many Catholics to look for places where the Catholic Faith remained intact: validly ordained bishops and priests, the Catholic Mass, the Sacraments, the Doctrine and the Catechism "of always"...
For decades, the Catholic Remnant adapted to living in a "crisis situation", as we saw how the Apostasy and errors condemned in the past were promoted from modernist Rome. Interpretations of one type and another seek to provide an explanation for the disaster that occurred.
However, we have forgotten fundamental principles of our Catholic Faith. These principles are in the Catechism, and should be a guide for understanding the current crisis of the Church, and especially for finding a solution to the crisis:
1. The Catholic Church teaches with authority.
The Church teaches with authority means, that the Pope and the Bishops, as successors of the Apostles, have the right to teach and govern the faithful.
"All power is given to Me in Heaven and in Earth. Going therefore, teach ye all nations; teaching them to observe all things whatever I have commanded you" (Matt.28:18-20)
2. The Catholic Church is infallible in matters of Faith and Morals.
The Church is infallible in matters of Faith and Morals means, that She cannot err when She teaches a doctrine of Faith and Morals.
"But the Paraclete, the Holy Ghost, whom the Father will send in My name, He will teach you all things, and bring all things to your mind, whatever I shall have said to you" (John 14:26)
3. The Catholic Church is indefectible.
The Church is indefectible means, that Her enemies cannot destroy Her and that She will last to the end of time.
Christ declares: "The gates of Hell shall not prevail against it." (Matt. 16:18)
St. Paul calls the Church "the pillar and ground of Truth." (1 Tim. 3:15)
The traditional Catechism gives the following definition of the Catholic Church:
The Church is the congregation of all those who profess the faith of Jesus Christ, partake of the same Sacraments, and are governed by one visible Head, the Pope of Rome.
The word "pope" comes from the Latin word "papa", and means "father".
Jesus Christ is the Head of the Church, but He is Her invisible Head.
Since the Church is a visible organization, it was necessary for Christ to give Her also a visible Head.
Jesus Christ founded the Church to teach, govern, sanctify, and save all men.
From these simple truths I see some very clear and concrete consequences for our Faith:
1. The true Church cannot give us to "drink the poison of error": dubious sacraments, strange doctrines condemned by Popes in the past, destruction of Christianity, promotion of a new religion worldwide, by a bad hierarchy that produces confusion and error in souls.
The Church teaches the Truth, she cannot err or teach us error. Therefore, the errors and bad doctrines that have been taught from Rome since Vatican II do not come from legitimate authority and we must reject them.
2. The true Church has divine authority to teach the Truth in the world, and the Church is essentially Hierarchical. Christ founded his Church on the foundation of the Apostles. The Church cannot exist without apostolic authority.
3. The Catholic Church is a perfect society. She possesses within herself all the means she needs to get out of the crisis of authority, because she is indefectible and Christ assists the Church until the end of time. To say that the Church does not have the necessary means to resolve the essential (non-accidental) crisis of authority is equivalent to saying that Christ abandoned His Church and that the Holy Spirit does not assist Her with the means She needs to continue teaching, governing and sanctifying souls.
4. The Catholic Church is a visible society. Jesus Christ is the invisible Head of the Church, and the Pope is the visible Head of the Church, who is a direct successor in the Apostolic Office of St. Peter. The successors of the other Apostles are the Bishops of the Church. The Catholic Church is not "a headless monster." "Perennial acephaly" is not "connatural" to the supernatural nature of the Catholic Church.
It is true that the only correct and coherent position with Catholic dogma is to uphold the "sedevacante", since we want to remain Catholic and cannot accept that the new religion imposed since Vatican II comes from the legitimate Catholic authority. Accepting the new modernist religion would be to contradict the dogma of the infallibility and indefectibility of the Church of Jesus Christ. But we cannot accept a "permanent sedevacantism" either. Sedevacantism is the problem and not the solution. We are not sedevacantists, we are complete Catholics.
For all this, we see with joy and hope the emergence of the "Unam Sanctam" Association, with the aim of holding an Imperfect General Council to restore the Papacy and get out of this terrible crisis that is plaguing the Church.
Thinking about all this, I see the peace and serenity that the statue of Saint Joseph in our garden expresses, and I pray before it for the needs of Holy Church in these times of tribulation and devastation. God will work in the Church in a wonderful way, as promised by Our Lady, Victor of all heresies.
The hot sun of "the island of the Most Holy Trinity" (Trinidad ) goes directly into the face of the statue of Saint Joseph and the Child Jesus at the entrance to our garden. It is a magnificent morning, on the Solemnity Vespers of the Glorious Patriarch Saint Joseph (Wednesday after the second Sunday after Easter), and our garden looks especially beautiful today, under the serene gaze of the patron of our Chapel. Small birds of many colors fly from one side to the other, singing.
